The drive behind Northern Sprint Tour is businessman and former racer Fred Brownfield, taking up the challenge to create and promote a top quality sprint car touring group.
Fred’s involvement with the sport of auto racing started nearly thirty years ago in Monroe, WA where he won the Rookie of the Year award as a driver at Sky Valley Speedway. His driving boasts numerous titles and awards, including tenure as a World of Outlaws race tour driver. He was a cautious driver with an excellent safety record, but aggressive and skillful enough to rack up four Skagit Speedway Sprint championships.
Fred's knowledge of the sport of auto racing has earned the respect of race participants not only for his accomplishments behind the wheel, but also for his promotional successes. His initial promotional outing was bringing the World of Outlaws back to the Northwest in 1994, after a 15 year absence. This led to a successful two-year stint running Skagit Speedway. During this time he promoted the first tour in the Northwest of both SCRA, the premier wingless sprint group out of southern California, and the midgets of BCRA from the Bay Cities. This business savvy earned him a nomination for Promoter of the Year in 1994.
The success of the Northern Sprint Tour was instrumental in his being nominated for the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum's "360 Sprint Car Promoter of the Year" in 2000 and then winning the honor in 2001.
Fred’s devotion to his family and his belief in traditional family values has been carried into his racing business, showing up in the original slogan of Brownfield Promotions, Inc., "The Fastest Way To Family Fun". Over the years special events including Teddy Bear Nights, a special children’s concession stand, home school nights and programs to assist fund-raising efforts by local high schools have played a part in his promotions.
In 1998 Fred assumed management of Grays Harbor Raceway, signing a 10 year renewal at the end of the 2002season, which along with the Northern Sprint Tour will assure the fans of the Great Northwest that they will continue to have the best in dirt track auto racing available for their enjoyment
